DEBORAH SCHNEIDER & SEAN SCHERER will exhibit their work at The Walt Meade Gallery and the Old Bank Gallery of the Roxbury Arts Group fromr July 26 through August 26. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 26 from 2-6 pm. Gallery hours are Tuesday- Saturday from 10 am -4 pm and by appointment. (607) 326-7908.
Long time friends, Schneider and Scherer are exhibiting together for the first time. They share a deep interest in abstraction and its potential for generating beauty. Approaching the idiom from their unique perspectives, each project charts a very different area of abstraction offering the viewer a strong sense of the vastness of the field.
Deborah Schneider is an abstract painter from New York City. She has had solo exhibitions at Nicholas Davies Gallery and P.S. 1. and has also been in a number of group shows in New York as well as Washington D.C. and the southeast including the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, NC. and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, FL.

Schneider studied at Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture and has an MFA but said the best art educational experience for her came when she worked as a studio assistant to Red Grooms. Red had a very relaxed approach to using mixed media.
Schneider lived in Miami in the mid 1980's and during that time taught painting at Miami-Dade Community College. In 1985, Sean Scherer was a gifted high school senior enrolled in one of her classes.
Sean Scherer finds the sources for the complex geometric patterns of his work in many places. For many years he was involved in making paintings based on the Russian constructivists, now he turns common patterns into something almost precious and anything but ordinary.
Trained at the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program and the School of the Art Institure of Chicago, Scherer has had solo exhibitions in Finland, and in galleries from Buffalo to New Orleans. He’s participated in group exhibitions throughout the United States.
