RAG Receives Grant for New Gallery Flooring

The Roxbury Arts Group has received a grant of $5,500 from the Community Foundation for South Central New York to replace the flooring in the Walt Meade Gallery in their Arts Center on Vega Mountain Road. Diane L. Brown, Executive Director, Donna Hill, Program and Development Officer, and Elysia Gudas of the Board of Directors paid a site visit to RAG on Friday, June 20 to present the grant award letter to Michael Mathis, the vice-president of RAG’s Board of Directors and to Susan Kenny, RAG’s Executive Director.

“The new flooring will make all the difference to the professionalism and beauty of the gallery,” says Kenny. “We’re very grateful for this funding.” Work is scheduled to begin in late August using Catskill harvested lumber.

The competition for Foundation funding was very strong in this year’s Spring Grant Cycle. The Community Foundation received 38 requests with a total amount requested of more than $309,000. Ultimately, only 10 grants were made. Now in its 11th year of cultivating philanthropy in the region, the Community Foundation places gifts from the region’s residents and others into various funds, which form the Foundation’s overall endowment.

From these funds, grants are then awarded to area nonprofits to help meet community needs in the Foundation’s six-county service area. Counties served by the Community Foundation include Chenango, Broome, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego and Tioga counties. Since inception, the Community Foundation has awarded nearly $4 million in grants in the fields of health, human services, education, the arts and humanities.
