Tuscan Landscape Exhibit at RAG

Richard SimmsWatercolors and pastels evoking the landscapes of Tuscany will be a feature of the exhibit of works by Richard Simms that will be on display at The Old Bank Gallery of The Roxbury Arts Group from May 27th through July 7th. There will be an opening reception at the gallery on May 31, from 4-6 pm.

For Simms, capturing light and the character of the location are primary factors in his work. These paintings from the Tuscan locales of Florence, San Gimignano, Pienza, Siena, Cortona, amd Montepulciano all bear witness to the beauty of Italy.

Simms , who holds an MFA, studied art in Japan as well as ikebana, the Japanese art of floral design, which he uses daily in his work as owner of Wildflowers in Margaretville.

His work is in a number of private collections in The United States and in Europe.

He is a founding member of the Longyear Gallery in the Commons Building in Margaretville. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm and by appointment. (607) 326-7908.
