ROXBURY LIBRARY CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS AWARDED

ROXBURY LIBRARY CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS IN CELEBRATION OF THE 2007 "WE THE PEOPLE" BOOKSHELF GRANT AWARDED TO THE ROXBURY LIBRARY ASSOCIATION BY THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES AND THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION

The NEH and the ALA have honored the Roxbury Library Association with a 2007 "We the People" Bookshelf Grant. The award of a substantial collection of books thematically linked to the 2007 concept "The Pursuit of Happiness" supports programs for all young age groups that promote the teaching, study, and understanding of American history amd culture. During the month of April 2008, the Roxbury Library will offer a series of programs for children and adolescents that feature special selections from the "We the People" Bookshelf Grant.

Please mark your calendars for the following dates and activities in April:

Thursday, April 3rd: 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Roxbury Library
MIKE MULLIGAN AND HIS STEAM SHOVEL by Virginia Lee Burton
(Grades K-2);

Monday, April 7th: 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Roxbury Library
THE GREAT MIGRATION: AN AMERICAN STORY by Jacob Lawrence
(Grades 3-4); and

Monday, April 21st: 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Roxbury Library
THE JOURNAL OF WONG MING-CHUNG by Laurence Yep
(Grades 5-7).

Each session will take place in the Children's Section of the Roxbury Library and will include a reading and a discussion, followed by an arts-and-crafts project, and topped off by refreshments of cookies and juice. Everyone is welcome!

The Roxbury Library Association will also commemorate the 2007 "We the People" Bookshelf Grant by sponsoring two writing workshops for Roxbury Central School students in Margaret Pebler's 8th grade classes. Focused on Madeleine L'Engle's A WRINKLE IN TIME and led by Roxbury resident and poet Barry Seiler, these workshops will take place on Wednesday, April 23rd, and on Thursday, April 24th.
