Writers in the Mountains Spring Workshops

Writers in the Mountains is offering four workshops taught by professional, published writers for only $15.00 per workshop. The usual workshop fee is $75, but a grant from the New York State Council of the Arts' Decentralization Program, administered in Delaware County by The Roxbury Arts Group has provided this unique opportunity. Connecting the Dots: How to Start Writing Your Own Story, with Dorothy Kubik. Mondays, April 7-May 12, 1-3 pm. Delhi Senior Community, Room 7. This workshop is designed for persons interested in writing their own or family stories. Exercises and activities to stimulate creative self-expression and help participants begin writing their stories will be the focus of these sessions. Dorothy Kubik is a free-lance writer living in Hamden, NY. She has written many articles and published two books on historical subjects. Her most recent work, The Adventures of Albert and Leopoldina, is her first book for children.

In Praise of Place , Personal Narrative with Melora Wolff. Sunday and Monday April 27 & 28, May 4& 5. There will be two classes on each of these days. Class One will meet from 10 am - 1 pm. Class Two from 2:20 - 5:30 pm. At The Walt Meade Gallery of The Roxbury Arts Group.

Writers will draft, revise and complete one personal first person narrative in specific praise of a remembered place. They will focus on crafting celebratory prose. Discussion of assigned authors and of the essays composed for this class ( no fiction or poetry). Registrants will select either the morning or the afternoon class. Melora Wolff is an essayist and prose poet whose work appears regularly in journals and anthologies. Currently she teaches nonfiction and poetry at Skidmore College.

Poetry with Lynn Domina, Wednesdays, May 21 - June 25, 6-8 pm, Andes Library. Each week, the workshop will emphasize a different element of craft (image, figures of speech, lineation, etc) as students complete exercises and write poems exploring the homes we come from, return to, inhabit and avoid. Students will use the work of published poets as examples and discuss the poems written for the workshop. Lynn Domina publishes frequently in periodicals, has published a collection of poetry, a reference work and edited a collection of poetry. She currently teaches at SUNY Delhi.
