Holidays of the Guilded Age

For several years, Roxbury hosted a Holidays of the Guilded Age event as a means of highlighting the community’s Perserve America designation.

Visitors rediscovered the true spirit of the holidays in this old-fashioned celebration, brimming with light, song, and good cheer. The sounds of Victorian-style carolers and sleigh bells filled the air as Santa’s Coach escorted visitors down the hamlet’s magical Main Street, with homes and storefronts ablaze with holiday lights and old-fashioned garlands and festoons.

Hot cocoa and other traditional treats completed the flavor of simple celebrations of 100 years ago, when the holidays were about beauty, fellowship and sharing the bounty of the year, with a magical tree lighting ceremony on the village green.
