Residents with permits may bring trash to the Transfer Station. 

Recyclables and trash should be in clear plastic bags. Newspapers and cardboard should be stacked and tied. If you care to donate your deposit bottles and cans, the Scouts have a deposit shed at the Transfer Station.

Transfer Station permits are available to residents of the Town of Roxbury and can be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office for a fee of $2.

Green stickers went into effect 08/01/2020. You may obtain a transfer station permit in person or by mail. You will need to provide your license and vehicle registration (for the vehicle used at the transfer station). If you are a full-time renter, bring in a copy of your current lease and current utility bill with your name and physical location. No waste accepted from short-term renters (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.).

Transfer Station Guidelines

  • Transfer Station is open to residents and land owners of the Town of Roxbury only. Users must first obtain a permit sticker from the Town Clerk.

  • Permit Sticker must be clearly visible on any window of the vehicle.

  • Only wastes and recyclables generated within the Town of Roxbury will be accepted for disposal.

  • All solid waste deposited in plastic bags must be in clear plastic bags.

  • To prevent litter, NYS law requires all loads to be covered during transport.

Commercial Haulers

  • Haulers unloading at the same time as the public must give the public first approach to the compactor and are required to follow any special instructions given by the Transfer Station Manager.

Special Wastes

  • Paint cans with residual paint must be dried out or filled with cat litter prior to disposal. Empty and cleaned paint cans can be recycled with scrap metal.

  • Mattresses and bulky furniture are considered construction and demolition debris. Box springs must have the fabric and wood removed for recycling with scrap metal.

  • House/Apartment clean outs are subject to all solid waste and recycling guidelines.

  • Litter clean ups, illegal dumping and litter in black bags will be investigated to identify the illegal dumper.

  • Appliances that do not contain freon are accepted at the Transfer Station.

  • TV sets and computer monitors are accepted in the electronics box.

    Bring to Solid Waste Management Center in Walton for recycling

  • Burn barrell ashes

  • Dead animals and carcasses
    Lime and bury animals and carcasses on property

  • Hazardous or toxic materials
    Includes: fluorescent and mercury vapor lights and ballasts, transformers andpesticides. Save for Clean Sweep event in the Fall

  • Leaves, yard wastes, green or leafy wood
    Chip and/or compost this material at home

  • Liquids of any kind
    Paints must be dried or mixed with cat litter

  • Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners
    Bring freon containing appliances to the Solid Waster Management System in Walton for recycling

  • Used motor oil & antifreeze
    Bring to your local service station or the Solid Waste Management Center in Walton

Materials Accepted

  • Municipal solid waste (must be in clear bags)
    Non-hazardous household waste. Includes: packaging, foils, plastic films, non-recyclable containers and lids, kitchen & bathroom trash, food scraps, disposable tableware and tissues.

  • Clothing & accessories
    Clean and dry clothing and shoes

  • Clothing & accessories
    Clean and dry clothing and shoes

  • Construction & demolition debris
    Includes: structural debris, wall coverings, plumbing, shingles, roofing, siding, lumber, plaster, drywall, insulation, carpeting, flooring and furniture. Limit 35 gallons per person. Bring larger volumes of C&D to Solid Waste Management Center in Walton.

  • Co-mingled recyclables (items may be mixed)
    HDPE plastic bottles and jugs, PETE plastic bottles and jugs, glass bottles (clear, green & brown), metal food and beverage containers. Please remove caps and rinse.

  • Separated recyclables (keep items separated)
    Corrugated cardboard, newspaper, magazines and junk mail, office & computer paper

  • Scrap metal
    Metal items and scrap, box springs clean of fabric and wood, white goods and appliances that do not contain freon

Other Information

Clean Sweep Program
The Delaware County Solid Waste Management Center holds an annual Clean Sweep event in the Fall for hazardous materials. Watch local newspapers and the Town Hall sign board for details. Registration is required.
