The Roxbury Arts Group (RAG) in partnership with the Town of Roxbury, Greater Roxbury Business Association (GRBA), the MARK Project, and the Roxbury Fire Department invite you to a spectacular Labor Day festivity, A Blast of Roxbury, Sunday, August 31 from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. The day’s festivities start at 4:00 PM with walking tours through Roxbury’s Historic District, covering over eighty buildings and sites; and in Kirkside Park at 6:00 PM, a performance by The Spectacular Average Boys followed by fireworks. Town eateries Cassie’s Café, East Branch, Queens Mountain Café, Public Lounge, Petra Estiatorio at Shephard Hills Golf Course, and the Ate-O-Ate Gourmet Food Truck will be open and offering picnic menus for patrons to bring in the park. Roxbury Wine & Spirits boasts a fine selection of wine and spirits and will host a tasting at the store between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. The events are free. By their own admission, The Spectacular Average Boys “…are a folk band that rocks… or a rock band with their grandfathers’ instruments…” With Ned Brower on lead vocals, banjo and guitar; Joel Shue on bass and vocals; Justin Ploutz on guitar and vocals; and Jeff Landry on drums and vocals, this regional band of twenty-somethings will treat everyone fortunate enough to be in the audience to a spectaular and foot-stomping time, as play both traditional Americana and Folk along with their original tunes like “That Dirty River”. “I have been a fan of Ned Brower and The Spectacular Average Boys for a few years now” said Jenny Rosenzweig, Executive Director for the Roxbury Arts Group. She added, “It is perfect we were able to bring them to Roxbury for this end of summer’s celebration”.
In recent years Roxbury, like many communities in the Catskills, has seen an amazing resurgence of its Main Street businesses and a renewed vibrancy. Come, experience a splendid summer day in Roxbury’s Historic District on August 31, and celebrate community with neighbors, friends, and family.
